Trains on the Bernese Oberland Railway (BOB) line will run every half hour throughout 2024 as usual. In addition, the new stop with the Park+Ride in Matten near Interlaken will be put into operation on 10 December 2023. For this reason, trains from Interlaken Ost and Grindelwald will run one minute earlier than before. The stop with Park+Ride will ensure fewer cars driving into the Lütschinen valleys in the first place. Convenient transfer to the train is guaranteed and all winter sports passes for the Jungfrau ski region include travel on the BOB from Interlaken Ost. The Park+Ride is used purely as a day car park. Guests visiting the region for several days can use the car park at Wilderswil railway station.
If necessary, additional trains can run on the line between Interlaken Ost and Grindelwald on days when a high volume of traffic is expected. These additional trains are operated in the morning and late afternoon on peak days. The Jungfrau Railways thus benefits from the positive experience in short-term planning it has gained in recent years, depending on the weather forecast and whether it is a weekend or public holiday. When travelling from Interlaken Ost to Grindelwald, these additional trains stop in Matten, Grindelwald Terminal and Grindelwald. When travelling from Grindelwald to Interlaken Ost, there is an additional stop at Wilderswil.
Passengers in Zweilütschinen will also benefit from new developments: the modernised systems will go into operation with the timetable change. This also includes new and raised platforms, which allow access at ground level, and the new subway. This offers greater safety and easier access for wheelchair users, people with pushchairs or guests with luggage.
WAB – New Wengen Shuttle
As of the timetable change, locals and visitors alike can benefit from the new Wengen Shuttle rolling stock on the Wengernalp Railway (WAB) line between Lauterbrunnen and Wengen. The shuttle with extra space for luggage, pushchairs, etc. will be used around 100 days a year. Specifically, it will run on days with high passenger numbers (e.g. Christmas/New Year weeks, sports weeks in February, etc.)
Trains between Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg will run every half hour again in 2024. Due to the increased guest numbers, there will no longer be any route closures in spring. Traffic on this section of line will not be suspended until November (04/11/2024 – 29/11/2024) due to inspections and engineering work.
On the Grindelwald-Kleine Scheidegg line, the WAB will run every half hour during the winter sports season as well as the high season in summer. The rest of the time, the hourly frequency will apply. The route will be closed twice for inspections and engineering work (06/05/2024 – 17/05/2024 / 21/10/2024 – 03/11/2024).
JB – Mostly every half hour again
The Jungfrau Railway will run every half hour all year round between Eigergletscher and the Jungfraujoch. A half-hourly service is planned between Kleine Scheidegg and the Jungfraujoch from 29 March 2024 to 3 November 2024 with direct trains to the Jungfraujoch.
BLM – Renewal of adhesion track complete
The Lauterbrunnen-Mürren mountain railway (BLM) has completed the major work involved in the complete renewal of the Grütschalp-Mürren adhesion railway line. The purpose of much of the renovation work is to comply with the Swiss Disability Discrimination Act – for example, the toilet facilities on Grütschalp and Winteregg are now barrier-free, Mürren railway station (renovated in 2022) has a lift and access to the new rolling stock will be at ground level.
The Lauterbrunnen-Grütschalp aerial cableway and the trains on the Grütschalp-Mürren line will run every 15 minutes in the high season. In the off-season, the BLM will run every half hour. Due to supply bottlenecks caused by the pandemic and Russia’s war against Ukraine, it will not be possible for the new, barrier-free rolling stock to go into operation until June 2024.
